When you visit LegalHero’s web pages, you will automatically receive one or more cookies. Cookies are small text files located on your browser and used to recognize you the next time you visit.

At the same time cookies are used to remember who you are from time to time in order to adapt the content of the webpage you use, specifically in terms of advertisement and marketing across other websites.

When you visit LegalHero and its web pages, LegalHero collects 4 types of cookies.
In order to optimize the usage of our web pages and to ensure that our site functions the way it is intended, we collect strictly necessary cookies, which will always be collected in order for our web pages to function properly and optimally.
Furthermore, LegalHero collects preference cookies, which are used to remember your own preferences on our web pages. LegalHero is an online platform and for that reason, the majority of our operation happens online. Additionally, marketing on the basis of interests is an important element in our marketing strategy for both current and potential clients.
We collect information about when and for how long you visit our web pages, which of our web pages you click on, whether you have visited us before as well as which of our services you seem to be the most interested in. We collect information on which browsers you use, your IP-address based on, how we can properly optimize the adverts and banners you are seeing after visiting our web pages.

By third parties, it means services that are a part of delivering the content you can find on the web page, such as videos, formulas and chat. Additionally, we use third party programs in order to optimize our web page experience on the basis of the user behavior that we can monitor on LegalHero’s web pages. The services used are YouTube, Intercom, Hotjar, Google Analytics among others.
LegalHero has multiple cooperation agreements in place, which also collect cookies. These are labelled third party cookies. These cookies are used for marketers to place their advertisements in order to deliver relevant and targeted advertising to our visitors. Examples of this are Facebook, Google AdWords, Bing Ads and LinkedIn.
LegalHero respects all wishes concerning confidentiality and processes all of its data responsibly, in accordance with the law and most of all with the utmost focus on security.
What is personal data?
Personal data is considered any form of information, which can attribute a physical person, even though this assumes knowledge of social security numbers, addresses etc.
A distinction can be made between two types of personal data: “Sensitive data” and “regular data”.
Sensitive data is all information surrounding race, ethnical origin, political-, religious- or philosophical views, union association as well as all processing of genetic and/or biometric data with the goal of identifying a physical person, its health information or sexual orientation.
Regular data is information that falls outside the scope of sensitive data. This could be information used to identify a person such as name, address, information surrounding its financial situation, commercial information about customers or more technical information such as an IP-address.
What personal data does LegalHero collect?
LegalHero gathers different categories of personal information, when you use LegalHeros web pages.
The information is collected when you manually input it as you use our web pages, or by LegalHero gathering the information based on your usage of our web pages.
The following categories of information are collected, when you as a user use LegalHero’s web pages:
- When you create a profile on the platform, LegalHero collects your regular personal data, such as name, phone number, email and address.
- When you create a case on the platform, LegalHero collects your email and phone number as well as other information, which are manually inputted by you, while creating the case. This information can be both regular and sensitive data. It can be information that you as a user provide, whilst the case is active and which is used to provide a better scope on your case or which is essential to give you the best possible counseling.
- When you accept an offer from any one of our lawyers, we collect information via our web page. This could be payment- or credit card information in order to secure payment for the agreed upon services.
- While the case is active, LegalHero will collect and gather pictures, textfiles, PDF documents as well as other files and personal data that are considered part of the case, which you or your lawyer has uploaded on the platform.
- LegalHero will, based on your activity on the platform,collect information concerning the ways you, the user, use our web page. For this purpose, we use an IP-address, session information as well as other information that can map our users’ behavior on our web pages.
- LegalHero collects information, such as email, when you sign up for our newsletters or in other ways input information on LegalHero’s web pages, whether this is through email or through our built-in chat.
- Device information, i.e. which type of units you use to interact with our websites as well as your location settings, will also be collected.
- In special cases, LegalHero will be required by law to collect specific personal data.
Why does LegalHero collect personal data?
In order to give you the best possible experience with our lawyers and platform, we have to collect your personal data.
When you use LegalHero’s platform, you hereby grant LegalHero permission to handle the categories of information that are relevant for us to deliver the necessary services and for optimization, maintenance and development of our web pages.
When you create a case on LegalHero’s platform, we will inform you, when any updates happen on the case.
In some situations, we are obligated by law to collect additional personal data than that of other cases. This is especially the case in cases, where there is a risk of money laundering or financing terror. In these cases, it is required by law that LegalHero collects image identification as well as verify identification before providing any legal services.
We use the data that we collect for the following:
- To deliver targeted advertisements and campaigns.
- To register and create you as a user and to allow a secure login for the LegalHero platform.
- To send you newsletters and other product news.
- To understand which ways you use our web pages in order for us to improve and optimize them as well as develop new products and services.

- To send you VAT-valid invoices and handle the transactions that are managed through LegalHero’s platform.

Who does LegalHero share personal data with?
LegalHero will share your personal data with trusted cooperation partners that help us with maintaining, updating and running our web pages, business and services for you. These partners will only gain access to your data to the extent that it is absolutely necessary and always with the contractual obligation to process this data confidentially.
Personal data given in the process of receiving legal counseling will not be shared with anyone other than LegalHero’s employees and LegalHero’s lawyers, unless granted explicit permission by you.
In order to properly manage your payment information, your data will be shared with Stripe, our third party payment partner, who will safely store your data.
Your data will also be shared with third parties and partners in order to provide more optimized marketing as well as other similar services. These services include, but are not limited to: Facebook, Google Adwords, Bing, LinkedIn etc.
In order to optimize and measure the amount of visitors on our web pages, your data will be shared with third party providers that are used to optimize and improve our web pages and products. For these purposes, LegalHero is using the following services: Google Analytics, Hotjar, Google Optimize, Bing and Facebook.
In order to deliver a secure chat application for our users and visitors on our web pages, your data is shared with our third party chat application partner, Intercom.
In order to send you newsletters, provide customer surveys and collect feedback on our services, your data is shared with the following third parties: MailChimp and Typeform.
In order to secure your data against unauthorised access from unknown parties, your data is stored and shared with our IT-infrastructure partner, Amazon. You can read more about this under “Protecting your personal data”.
Additionally, LegalHero will in the event of an insurance case share the data that is considered necessary for the insurance company to process an insurance case. You can read more about this under LegalHero’s insurance here.
LegalHero reserves the right to use and transmit data, when necessary to abide by the law, rules as well as official requests or to aid a governmental investigation.
LegalHero will process your data, either on the basis of your explicit consent, or if the data is necessary for us to complete a contract that you are a part of.
In the event that the processing of data is based on your consent, you will at all times be able to withdraw your consent, as explained in “Your rights”.
If you do not wish to consent to us processing your personal data, LegalHero will be unable to assist you further or allow you access to the services that are provided on LegalHero’s web pages.
How long do we store your personal data?
LegalHero will store your data given to us in relation to a case for a maximum of 10 years, unless exceptions apply. LegalHero will store this data in order to be able to assist with potential future claims against the services that are provided on LegalHero’s web pages.
For other personal data, these will be stored for 5 years after the client-lawyer relationship has ended, whereafter the data will be erased.
Personal data collected with regard to sending newsletters and updates regarding our products will remain stored, until these are manually unsubscribed to by you.
For all personal data stored by LegalHero and third parties, they will be deleted as soon as they are no longer relevant for the objective for which they were originally stored or in the event of the consent being withdrawn as long as this is before any case has begun that concerns this data.
Protecting your personal data
Your personal data is secured using HTTPS-encryption, when the data is in transit. HTTPS is a protocol on the internet used on services, where only the sender and receiver are allowed to know about the message. This way, the prevention of access to your data by unknown parties is completely secured.
When your data is stored, it will be stored on our servers, which are handled by Amazon Web Services. These servers are encrypted and under protective surveillance on an undisclosed location. The servers are physically stored in Ireland.
As a user with LegalHero, you have a set amount of rights.
As a registered user, you have the right to have your personal data erased. LegalHero will in specific cases retain the right to either limit or reject a request to erase, if the concerned personal data is necessary to adhere to mandatory law or to defend a claim against LegalHero.
As a registered user, you have the right to know what personal data we collect and process about you. You can at any time request information on all data that are collected and processed, if the data concerns you. This data will be delivered as soon as possible, but always within a maximum of 4 weeks.
As a registered user, you have the right to have your data transported to another data controller. This data will be delivered as a spreadsheet in a Microsoft Excel-format, which can be transferred to another datacontroller.
As a registered user, you have the right to have incorrect or inaccurate personal data about you corrected.
As a registered user, you have the right to withdraw your consent to us processing your data, if you wish for it to stop or to limit the processing of your data.
Notification about the breach of protection of your personal data
In the event of a security breach that can result in compromising your personal data, LegalHero will notify you within 72- hours via email with information surrounding the data breach. This includes information regarding what data has been compromised as well as which steps and actions are being taken to limit and resecure any possible damage or abuse of your personal data.
